  • Milestone

Today I applied for a new job - I've had a hard few weeks and was in a funk with my boss so decided I should do something about it. It is so hard to fill in an application form from scratch after such a long time working for one outfit. I e-mailed the completed form off today at 5.30 p.m. and felt much better.
We have so many things going on at the moment and both Larry and I are very busy at work.  We are always tied up , next weekend for the 4th of July we are going to SW of England to Devon to visit my goddaughter . Her father is american, so we are going to have a mini 4th July celebration too by the seaside.
My eldest sister and her daughter are coming to visit for a long weekend in July so that will really be great. We are all going to the graduation of my neice, Dawn who has just finished her Phd.  The day after that, on 21 July Larry and I will be attending the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham palace.  I am all in a tizz about buying an outfit, I have to wear a hat for that.

  • Its almost warm

Today I have hung out the washing in the garden. Its a lovely day, bright and not raining. The daffodils are out in the garden and James is skateboarding in the street outside the house. larry has gone to do the shopping as we are having my brother and his family over tonight, and my neice. it is always a mistake to let him go shopping for food on his own, he always comes back with first of all 2 of everything, and then things we already have and have no space to store . Actually I am not complaining it is great that he does the shopping, he goes in the car and usually I have to drag it by hand. To day I went to a keep fit class in a small local hall with lots of local ladies. I am usually sitting all day all week long so it is really necessary to do a bit of exercise as the fat is sticking to my midriff.
I went to Brussels for a meeting on Tuesday and one of the speakers was from the USDA, he reminded me of Larry's dad, he had a big white moustache and they are not so popular in europe!!
I must get back to cleaning the house as its the weekend is the only time I get to do it.

For all the ladies , I hope you had a good International Women's Day on 8th March. The struggle for equality is still being done, especially on pay. I went to listen to a lunchtime session on Friday organised by our Foreign Office. There was a bevy of lady ambassadors and a couple of high profile women speakers.

  • Another boy!

This morning we went to fetch Tom from Heathrow - he got back from south africa safe and sound. It's really good to see him and all yesterday we were sorting out the bedrooms so we could give him a nice room with space for his things.
So now I have 3 males to contend with, they gang up on me to watch stuff like Top Gear- presented by a big headed loud mouth who thinks the British Empire still exists!! It will be nice for James to have a 'brother' around , he has already been showing him his i-pod and psp, electric guitar  etc.
Work has been hectic as usual and sometimes it is hard to switch off, I worked from home on Friday- boy that was really stressful- I made sure I could connect my laptop wirelessly to the network at 6.00a.m. and felt compelled to stay with it all day . I must say I could not relax and do not know how people can function . When I am at home I really like to do home things like cooking, cleaning, tidying up. Mixing the two is not for me, I need the boundaries.
Yesterday I saw my goddaughter Mira- her mum is english and her dad american- she is the most beautiful baby, really placid and smiley - she lives a long way away in Devon, so only get to see her when they come to London or we make a special trip to see them.

  • New Year

Its been so long since I had time to look at Xanga, been missing lots of the news.  My news is that we've booked our tickets to go to the US to visit family in Easter and we're just shaping up the schedule now.  We have booked cabins in the state park near Wynne so we can meet up and have a holiday at the same time.  I am looking forward to going to Gracelands and James the gibson factory- hope its open over Easter!
We have Tabby and Dave visiting this weekend, so it is really nice to see them as they live in Manchester.
We are looking forward to Tuesday- to see Obama becoming President of the US and hoping this will make a difference in the world.
Life is getting back to normal after Christmas- school, work, chores etc The credit crunch has certainly hit the UK and lots of stores are discounting products further and some old favoroutes have just gome out of business like Woolworths and Whittards .

  • Trips

In September , I went to Budapest with my friend Evelyn for a long weekend to celebrate her birthday. It was a lovely city, clean, beautiful buildings, nice people etc. We had an encounter with a golden eagle, it was amazing to see a real one up close, he let us hold it too and it was heavy!!

We went to the Parliament building which is lovely and this overlooks the river.  We went for a walk along the banks of the Danube and came across these bronze shoes on the bank. It turned out to be a memorial for those Jews thrown in the river , just their shoes left behind. Budapest has the largest synagogue in Europe. We really had a great trip and I took my friend to see the folk dancing at the theatre for her birthday threat.
